Privacy policy
Last updated: 17 September 2026
The short version. LoveRing shows you people who are nearby right now. Your exact location is never shared with other users. You start anonymous, with a random name and a Critter avatar, and you reveal your real profile only when you both agree. You can go invisible or delete your account at any time.
1. Who we are
LoveRing is operated by Cliyer LTD (“LoveRing”, “we”, “us”, “our”), the data controller for the personal information described in this policy, for the LoveRing mobile application on iOS and Android and the website at lovering.app (together, the “Service”). We process your data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can reach us at any time at privacy@lovering.app.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account data. When you register we collect details such as your email address or phone number, date of birth, and password or sign-in credentials. You must be 18 or older.
- Profile data. Details you choose to add to your profile, such as your name, photos, gender, interests, and who you would like to meet. Some of this, for example details about your sexual orientation, may be considered sensitive or “special category” data in some countries. If you choose to provide it, you consent to us processing it as described in this policy. While you remain anonymous, other users only see your random name and Critter avatar, not this profile.
- Content. Messages you send, games you play, scores, and reports or feedback you submit.
- Support data. Information you provide when you contact us for help.
Information collected automatically
- Geolocation data. Nearby discovery is the heart of LoveRing. If you grant location permission, we collect your device’s geolocation (latitude and longitude) so we can show you people who are nearby while you choose to be visible. Collection happens while the app is in use, and in the background only if the permission you granted expressly allows it. If you decline, we do not collect your precise location and nearby discovery will not be available.
- Usage data. How you use the Service: when you log in, features you use, when you go visible or invisible, games played, invites sent, and interactions with other users.
- Technical data. Device and connection information such as IP address, device model and operating system, app version, crash logs, and identifiers associated with cookies or similar technologies (see our Cookie policy).
3. How your location is handled
- Other users only ever see an approximate distance, never your exact coordinates.
- You appear in nearby discovery only while you choose to be visible. You can go invisible at any moment, and you stop appearing to others immediately.
- Avatar positions on any radar or map-style illustration are decorative; they do not reveal your real-world position or direction.
- You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. Nearby discovery will stop working, but the rest of the app remains usable.
4. How we use your information
- Provide the Service: create and maintain your account, show you nearby users who are visible, run games and chat, and manage anonymous identities and mutual reveals.
- Keep the community safe: enforce our Terms of service, detect fraud, spam, and abuse, review reports, and protect users.
- Improve the Service: understand how features are used, fix bugs, and develop new ones.
- Communicate with you: service messages (for example security alerts), and, where you have agreed, news and offers. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
- Meet legal obligations and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
5. Anonymous mode and revealing your profile
Every new connection starts anonymous: a random name and a generated Critter avatar. Chat unlocks only after you have both played together and reached 10 points. Your real profile (name, photos, and details you added) is revealed to another user only when you both explicitly agree. You can stay anonymous, end a conversation, or block a user at any time.
6. Who we share your information with
- Other users. Only what the feature requires: your anonymous identity and approximate distance while you are visible; your chats with that user; and your profile after a mutual reveal.
- Service providers. Companies that process data on our behalf under contract, such as cloud hosting and backend services (including Google Firebase), analytics, and customer-support tools. They may only use your data on our instructions.
- Legal and safety. Where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others, including disclosures to law enforcement where legally required.
- Business transfers. If LoveRing is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising purposes.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your personal information only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, your profile and personal data are deleted or de-identified within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records for longer, for example to comply with the law, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or preserve safety records such as reports and blocks. Deleting the app without deleting your account does not delete your data.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- delete your account and personal information (also available in-app in Settings);
- object to or restrict certain processing, or request portability of your data;
- withdraw consent at any time, for example by turning off location permission in your device settings or removing sensitive details from your profile, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, or your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, use the controls in the app or email privacy@lovering.app. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. These rights are guaranteed under the UK GDPR; if you are in the EEA, Switzerland, California, or another jurisdiction with privacy legislation, equivalent rights apply there, and you may also have the right to opt out of targeted advertising or data “sales”, as noted above, we do not sell your data or use it for targeted advertising.
9. Security
We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and approximate-only location sharing by design. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your sign-in credentials private and tell us immediately at support@lovering.app if you suspect unauthorised access.
10. Children
LoveRing is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a user is underage, we will terminate the account and delete the associated data.
11. International transfers
Our service providers may process your information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards as required by the UK GDPR, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK addendum to EU standard contractual clauses.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The “Last updated” date above always shows the current version.
